I am speaking of drug dealers and arms dealers. To acquire wealth, one must sever the connection between time and money. The winning strategy is to have others work so that their life hours generate income for you. Elon Musk became the richest person in the world by applying this principle. The products he produces, made with the efforts of others, generate his wealth.
In the case of drug dealers, the principle is similar. It is a fact that drug addicts often steal and rob to support their addictions. A drug dealer is limited by the hours in a day he can spend stealing from or robbing others. However, by acquiring addicts who will steal and commit robberies to buy drugs from him, he multiplies his time. Furthermore, the drug dealer reduces his own risk by having others steal and rob on his behalf.
Arms dealers who sell their wares to governments operate similarly to drug dealers. They indirectly steal from the citizenry through government taxation. Individually, citizens have no say in objecting to purchases of weapons whose sole purpose is to kill people. The military-industrial complex, in tandem with the war industry, fleecing citizens of over $400 billion annually. Politicians sent to Washington, D.C., often become corrupted by those profiting from this taxation. There are exceptions, however; those who resist this corruption, like Matt Gaetz, are often hounded by false allegations.
