The Democrats are showing themselves to be the same slave traders of yore. In those days, it was the majority’s tyranny that beset the African slaves. In each and every case that was brought before the Supreme Court on the behalf of a slave, that court of the majority ruled against the slave and in the favor of the majority. Benjamin Franklin is quoted as saying, “democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to eat for dinner.” That is why the framers of the constitution form an indirect democracy.
The Framers were fearful of a 51% majority vote to elect the President. This was judged to be the tyranny of the majority by them. Large states would rule over small states in perpetuity. In effect, the large populated centers would be the monarchs over the small centers of population. With the electoral college, a simple majority does not elect our President. A candidate has to campaign in the majority of the states to be elected, thus, pledging to represent all the states’ interest equally.
The Democrats were happy with the electoral college in 2016 when they were of the belief that the system favored them. Hillary Clinton lost because she spent months in the Hamptons, all the while Donald Trump held rallies in three states on the same day for weeks. Now like corrupt spoiled children, they want to change the rules.
To illustrate the Democrats disingenuous intentions all you have to do is look at their stated belief of the protection of the minorities from the majority.
All you have to do is look to see what a direct democracy has done for France. If you want Southern California and New York to rule over you and disenfranchise your presidential vote, then, by all means, allow the Democrats to move forward to remove the electoral college election system from the constitution.
