Bill de Blasio didn’t think his BLACK LIVES MATTER street mural stunt through for all of the cost to him and the City. Questions; is the street’s lane forever closed to traffic? Are the police forever bound to guard this yellow paint? Why didn’t de Blasio rename the street to Black Lives Matter? Why did de Blasio pick the street area in front of Trump Tower? Isn’t the Black Lives Matter movement all about the police killing Black American men? Why didn’t de Blasio paint Black Lives Matter in front of all of the New York City police station precincts? Why not close one lane on every street in New York City for the painting of Black Lives Matter murals if this mural is having a positive impact to save Black American lives in New York City?
The woman being arrested is Bevelyn Beatty. Beatty was arrested for painting black paint over letters of this mural. And because de Blasio has declared New York City a no bail city, Beatty was able to return to the mural to paint over it, two more times. The police didn’t arrest the people that were pulling down public property statues, however, why did the police arrest Beatty? Doesn’t Beatty as a Black woman have the right to paint over a Black Lives Matter mural? de Blasio has 24-hour police coverage guarding the BLM mural. Nine officers per shift. The starting salary for a police officer in New York City is $42,500. 27X$42,500=$1,147,500 for year’s protection of yellow street paint. A week’s cost is $22,067. It is shocking that de Blasio would voluntarily incur this cost to the City after he has cited the City’s shortfall in tax revenues as a result of the Covid-19 virus pandemic. Bill de Blasio has painted himself into a corner of fiscal irresponsible spending.
